Out of available seats for fresh admission, 25% seats are reserved for RTE (Right to Education) category. These seats will be filled from applicants belonging to SC/ST/EWS/BPL/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently Abled who are residents of the neighborhood area.

📋 Reserved Category Seats

  • 15% seats reserved for SC (Scheduled Caste)
  • 7.5% seats reserved for ST (Scheduled Tribe)
  • 27% seats reserved for OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes – Non Creamy Layer)
  • Seats for Differently Abled (Divyang) as per Government norms

Note: Out of 40 seats per section in Class I, 10 seats (25%) are filled under RTE through a lottery system from all RTE eligible applicants. The remaining seats are filled through priority-based lottery as per KVS admission guidelines.

🔄 KVS Class 1 Admission Process – Lottery Sequence

The following sequence is adopted for fresh admissions to Class I in Kendriya Vidyalayas:

📝 Lottery / Draw of Lots Phases:

Phase 1: RTE Quota (First Lot)

10 seats (out of 40 seats per section) in Class I are filled as per RTE provisions (25% of seats). These 10 seats are filled by draw of lots from all applications of SC/ST/EWS/BPL/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently Abled taken together who are residents of the neighborhood area.

Phase 2: Differently Abled Candidates (Second Lot)

Lottery for Differently Abled (Divyang) candidates of SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Unreserved categories is conducted as per Priority Category.

Phase 3: Priority Category 1 & 2 (Third Lot)

Remaining seats (after deducting RTE and Differently Abled applicants, if any) are filled as per existing Priority Category 1 and Category 2 (Category 1 to 3 in case of Project/IHL KV) only up to sanctioned strength or till all registered candidates from Cat-1 and Cat-2 are filled.

Phase 4: SC/ST/OBC-NCL Shortfall (Fourth Lot)

Total number of SC/ST/OBC-NCL admitted through RTE, DA, Cat-1, and Cat-2 is counted. Thereafter, shortfall in seats reserved for SC/ST/OBC-NCL, if any, is covered by admitting SC/ST/OBC-NCL applicants as per priority categories, irrespective of sanctioned strength.

Phase 5: Priority Category 3 onwards (Fifth Lot)

After all above processes, if sanctioned strength is not filled and seats are vacant, applicants from Priority Category 3 onwards (Category 4 in Project/IHL KV) will be taken up for admission as per existing priority list for unreserved seats only. Unfilled leftover reserved seats of RTE/SC/ST/OBC should be kept vacant.

Phase 6: Filling Leftover Vacant Reserved Seats

For filling unfilled quota of reserved seats for RTE/SC/ST/OBC, a separate advertisement is given in the month of April by the concerned Kendriya Vidyalaya for offline registration of candidates belonging to that particular category only to fill the shortfall of reservation quota.

⚠️ Important Admission Note: Admission to Kendriya Vidyalayas is based on a transparent lottery system (draw of lots) as per priority categories defined by KVS. Priority is given to children of Central/State Government employees, Defence/Paramilitary personnel, transferable/non-transferable Government employees, and others as per the detailed priority list published in the official notification. All admissions are subject to availability of seats and completion of the lottery process.
